Hey guys.  For everyone wondering what M$ is doing on their mobile devices to compete more with Android and the iPhone, here is the lowdown.  The current official version of Windows Mobile is 6.1.  Sometime this year, coming very soon, is 6.5.  6.5 is a temporary version to help compete until they creat windows 7.  Windows 7 is to be a complete overhaul of the OS.  It is said to be completely new.  Windows 7 will probably come out next year.  When windows mobile 7 comes out, there will be an update to 6.5.  Microsoft plans to use two operating systems for mobile devices.  The Second version of 6.5 will be for less experienced users and Windows 7 will be for power users.

I am excited for windows 7.  I really dont care about 6.5 cause it is more of the same.  Since Microsoft is adding capcitative support and multi-touch in 7, its gonna be really new.

Any chance current TP2s running 6.1 and later 6.5 will be able to 'upgrade' to 7 or will those TP2s be limited to 6.x and you'd need a 'new' phone to run 7?

I can guarantee they will be rolling out 3 weeks before its release.  6.5 isnt even out yet and I have had it on my old Treo 750 for 2 weeks now.

I just found this out.  Apparently, Windows Mobile & will require a Snapdragon or Tegra CPU to run.  It will also require other hardware components.  My favorite is the 3.5 mm headphone jack.  http://www.engadget.com/tag/windows+mobile+7+chassis+1/

FYI:  A Snapdragon and Tegra CPU are the fastest mobile CPUs on the market.  The Snapdragon clocks at 1 GHz and the Tegra has 8 cores.  They are about 2 times as fast as the one on the TP2.

Um, that's a pretty good 2 cents, but that sounds more like the hardware needed to run the Zune software dgourd... From the stuff I am hearing, the "Windows Phone Experience" or Windows Phone 7.0 will run on the new Tegra 2's and the next gen Snappy's coming next summer (shortly after the Tegra's hit manufacturers) running between 1.6 and 2.0 Ghz...

The one I am interested in is the possible 1GB memory requirement!?

Little late in on this thread but what the hell.. I'm wondering if Windows subsidized the giving the free upgrade I just got.. Seemed pretty nice of them to just give me a 300 dollar phone and let me upgrade for free. But if there worried about loosing there windows phone customers, to droid,  it might make sense.  I make for a perfect Guenna pig,  as I'm not a beginner but I'm not a power user eather..

They just have to make it simple enough for me to figure out.. Which I think HTC has done a great job in putting some good user friendly screens in between the screen and the OS in the background..  Couple more upgrades and I'll have this thing wired for sound..  Shocked

Yours On Pro2
