I have owned my TP2 since December 25th 2009 and on or about January 12th my TP2 started to act funny. At that time it was the original model with WM 6.1 and it started to freeze on me at least one a week and then it became unbearable this month with crashes that included loosing all my contacts and installed applications. I then spoke with Sprint who is my provider about the issue and they suggested that I upgrade my phone from the HTC web site to WM 6.5. After doing so the phone worked again for about 2 days flawlessly and again it crashed. Then sprint sent me a replacement phone in the mail (REFURBISHED) and that is the one I currently own. This new phone is now only 2 days old and it worked great for 2 hours. I took this phone to a certified Sprint repair store in my area and they could not figure out why the phone would crash. The phone actually would freeze and the screen would turn off and I could not turn it back on again unless I did a soft boot with the reset button on the side of the phone. Upon boot up it would get to the point where the colorful screen where it normally says Launching HTC Scence it would never come up and again the screen would go blank after about 10 min. and I could not again turn on the device. So the Sprint store installed 6.5 again over the top of the existing ROM and all worked 100% for another two days and now it is starting all over again.

Oh by the way, HI ALL.. Sorry for my long introduction but I just found this awesome site today so I wanted to let you all know that I was very much depressed. LOL.

Ok I have a theory on why my particular phone crashes. It seems that every time I install an application that does not come directly from Sprint it seems to crash. When there are no applications installed the phone seems to run with no real noticeable issues.

Does anyone have similar problems with there TP2.

Thanks again,

MBAKER

It sounds like you've had a couple of lemons.

I haven't experienced the problems you mentioned.  That fact that it's happened on two separate phones makes me think it's a hardware issue you've happened to end up with twice.  Maybe make them give you a third phone?  Sorry I can't help...

Ok I think I may have figured it out, but this may freak some of you guys out or then again maybe not. When I first purchased my TP2 it didn't come with any sort of case or holster so I ended up driving to a local Radio Shack and purchasing a nice leather holster for my phone. Now this holster is a very very nice one made with 100% cow hide and hand stitched. So I did spend a bit of money for it but I never thought it would or even possibly create a problem with my phone. Anyway let me explain what I think is happening. Inside of the flip top of this holster is a medal plate and on the side of the holster inside the leather there is a very very strong magnet that makes contact with the flap. I believe that the magnetic field produced by this magnet is affecting my ROM on the phone directly or indirectly.

My question to anyone whom may know electronics better them I, is this a distinct possibility?

Thanks,

Your cell phone cases' magnet should not  be strong enough to mess with the phone's data.

I suspect however, that there might be a software program you're installing, that doesn't play nice with HTC Sense. I have come to know some of them myself, and it's not pretty.

Take some screen shots or let us see a list of your installed programs, just before you have problems. Maybe we can help identify the culprit.

Would be nice to show you screen shots but I have no applications installed. I had Sprint re-install ROM 6.5 again clean. Believe it or not that magnet on my case is very very strong strong enough to pick up a pound piece of steel. A round ferrite magnet about the size of 1/2 dollar. Since I have taken the phone out of it's case today all day it really hasn't given me nearly as much trouble, so I believe that may have been the cause.

 Shocked

EDIT: I read that article about the magnet but it failed to say weather a magnet would affect the screen of a computer or windows mobile device. Since the cover of my case folds right over my screen. Also magnetic energy may not affect the data stored on those devices but it may disturb the data being passed from one device to another effectively corrupting the files upon boot up of shut down or just simple screen power up. I do know that magnetic energy effects how electrons pass through wires and circuitry but I am unsure if this is what the problem I am having. I suspect that I am just about the unluckiest fellow in the world to get two lemons for the price of one from SPRINT. However I am not about to give up. Someone show me please how to make a screen shot of my cell phone in distress. ROFL....
